Principal's Report

Trivia Night

Our trivia night is finally here! A very big thank you to everyone who has been involved in planning the night, our generous prize donators, and everyone who has bought tickets. It's sure to be a fun night. See you all soon!

Mandarin Matrix

On Tuesday I joined the Chinese team in a professional development session focusing on Mandarin Matrix, one of our key resources for teaching Chinese in the school. We explored updated assessment practices and linking assessment and planning within the Chinese literacy curriculum.

Staffing Update

It's with mixed feelings that I report that Cheng Ma will be leaving us in a couple of weeks to take up a high school maths position at Templestowe College. As sad as it is to lose a wonderful staff member like Cheng, this is a very exciting career move for her. We wish Cheng every success in her new role. Recruitment for Cheng's replacement is underway.

Early Arrivals

Over the past few weeks, children have been arriving at the school very early in the morning. Before school yard duty begins at 8:45am and children should not be unsupervised in the yard prior to this time. Parents can of course bring their children to school prior to this time as long as they stay with them until a staff member goes on duty. Before school care is available every day through Camp Australia.

Brainstorm Productions presentation

Last Thursday we were visited by Brainstorm Productions who put on a wonderful performance for the children focusing on cyber safety and screen time. The performance was fun and exciting as well as including some really important information about staying safe online, cyber bullying and managing screentime with the help of parents. Thank you to Caroline for organising this event.

Curriculum Day

Our curriculum day on the 18th of August is fast approaching. We will be working further on our instructional model and ensuring consistency of practice. We will be planning peer observation for teachers and reviewing school data following mid-year reports and NAPLAN. There will be no assembly next week due to the curriculum day. There will be care available on the day if it is required.

The Project

On Thursday the school was visited by comedian Sam Taunton and the crew from Channel Ten's "The Project." They interviewed a group of Abbotsford Primary School children about sport and holidays. The interviews will air on Channel Ten over the next few weeks. We will update the community when the exact date and time is made available

Banner replacement

I am very pleased to announce that the Curiosity banner in the atrium has been replaced with the correct spelling.

Maths presentation

On the 31st of August we will be holding a maths info night here at the school. If you would like to find out more about our maths program, please come along. Exact time will be confirmed soon.

Parent opinion Survey

The annual parent opinion survey opened on Monday 7th of August. A link and passcode have been sent to all families in the school and the survey will be open until Friday September 8th. I would like to encourage all families to take the time to complete the survey, as it really helps us set the direction of the school. If you have not received the link, please contact Keith.

Mid Cycle AIP review with SEIL

On the 12th of July I met with our senior education improvement leader Jane Greig-Hancock to review progress against our annual implementation plan. We are making good progress against all goals set at the beginning of the year and key focus areas for the remainder of the year will be, continuing to develop student agency within the school and strengthen teacher peer observation to continually improve teaching and learning in the school.
