Junior School Council Report

Hi everyone, we are Marlowe and Layla. We are the Junior School leaders.

On Wednesday this week, the whole school had an evacuation drill. All students walked to the Yarra Bend Park. It was successful.

We also have a lot of exciting events coming up. On the 26th of March, we will be selling our artworks to raise money for the ChildFund Australia. In our class, we have been busy making some beach pictures with actual sand and white clay. They are very beautiful!

On the 28th of March, we will have a School Market Day. Come and buy some treasures!

We hope you will have a good weekend!

Marlowe and Layla

Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

The last fortnight has been a reflective and fruitful one, with many opportunities to network, learn and hear stories that have inspired a sense of connectedness and a created a sense of challenge and possibility for where the school can head in the next chapter.

Firstly, a big thank you to all parents, carers, community members and staff members for the genuine sharing and reflections during our open consultations for the School Review. These dialogues have not only acknowledged the enablers and barriers for the school to achieve what it has over the last four years, but also sparked great excitement for what there is to come.

Secondly, over the last few weeks, we have had a chance to network with schools all over the world and engage staff in professional development activities with other Victorian bilingual schools.

Apart from our sister school in China, we are currently in conversations with the following schools to develop exchange opportunities for both students and staff for this year and beyond:
Another piece of exciting news has been that student clubs are once again back in our regular weekly schedule! I would like to congratulate the school leaders who have shown great initiative in coming up with the ideas, pitching it to the student body and running them in such an inclusive way.

For those who have not had an opportunity to join a club, the current weekly schedule includes:
  • Junior School Council Meeting (Monday)
  • Coding Club (Tuesday)
  • Gardening Club (Wednesday)
  • Drawing / Writing Club (Friday)

For students, if you have an idea that you would like to pitch, please see a member of the Junior School Council so they can help to raise the idea at the next JSC meeting!

Lastly, over the last month, the School Council has revised the following policies:
These two policies both relate to communication with the school and should be read in conjunction. In this review, we have put special effort in streamlining the channels of communication. The key message is that your first port of call should always be:
Depending on the topic, nature of the issue, and need for escalation, Classroom Teachers and Front Office Staff will help to redirect any enquiries or complaints to the relevant staff member.

We ask for your cooperation in adhering by these policies, so that we can maintain and balance both efficiency and effectiveness of our communication. We are also in the process of developing a more visual version of these policies for clarity.

Best wishes and enjoy the sunny weekend!

Term 1 JSC Fundraiser - Art Market

Dear APS students and families,

Fundraising is an important part of Abbotsford Primary School in developing positive community connections with the school. We value student voice and their input into the brainstorming and decision making about the school's fundraising events.

As a new attempt this year, the Junior School Council (JSC) has been given the opportunity to discuss how they would like to organise a range of quality fundraising events for the school calendar. Each term, one of the four houses will come up with an unique fundraising idea, which is then approved by the JSC and Stanley xiaozhang.

In Term 1, the Blue House has organised a fundraising event called the "Art Market". Students have been busy making their individual artworks during Visual Art classes and items will be sold on Friday, 26 March from 8:30am to 9:00 am in front of the Multi-Purpose Room. All artworks will be priced at $1-$2. All funds raised will go to ChildFund Australia, a charity selected by the students, to support other children in poverty.

We encourage parents and families to come on 26 March and join us with this fantastic fundraising event! The market will be followed by school assembly at 9:05am.

Thank you for your support.

We encourage players to have fun, be the best they can and take responsibility for their team.

Note: There will be no session on Monday, 14 June due to Queen's Birthday public holiday.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY - Soccer (by DF Football)

DF Football will continue to offer soccer clinics for students in the same format as Term 1.

Due to popular demand, they have offered to run the clinics on both Wednesday and Thursday.

There is a cap of:

We would appreciate that families who have the flexibility to do either day to indicate so during enrolment, so that we can make sure the clinics on both days are viable.
