Junior School Council Report

Hi everybody!

This is Sammy and Lara here. It has been a tough two weeks, of course. However, we have had a much easier time of it than last time. We have added on some extra features to our online learning such as more face to face meetings and individual focus groups.

Even though we have to stay at home and do online school, we would like to show our appreciation to all the teachers who have put a lot of effort into our learning. This enables us to continue our learning throughout lockdown. We also want to say thank you to all the specialist teachers who make the instruction videos for us. I think we have all learned a lot this lockdown and are happy to go back to SCHOOL!!

See you at school!

Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

What a tough fortnight it has been! But we did it, and we did it very gracefully, thanks to you, the staff and our partnership.

We know that remote learning is never easy but we appreciated your support in supervising your child(ren) so that learning did not stop.

Feedback on Remote Learning
Thank you for your participation in the Pulse Check survey last Friday. We had 29 responses and the staff really appreciated the feedback. I know that many have tried to make alterations where possible for implementation this week. The staff also appreciated the lovely messages at the end of the survey, which really put a smile on everyone's face as we finished off the week.

If you have any further feedback, could we encourage you to speak to one of the School Council members, who could help to raise any suggestions at the upcoming meeting next week.

School Review
On 3 June, we successfully completed the last day of the School Review online with the School Review Panel.

Our sincere thanks to the School Review Panel for time and effort devoted in helping us shape the strategic plan for the next four years.

There are still some work around the refinement of the Strategic Plan to be done before the end of the term, but the Leadership Team was extremely pleased with the result of the School Review, and is looking forward to sharing that with you.

The presentation to the school community previously scheduled for 16 June 2021 has now been postponed to 5-6pm on Wednesday, 5 August 2021. This change has been made based on the Department’s advice and timeline for approving the School Review report.

This presentation will cover the 2020 Annual Report to the Community and the 2021-2024 School Strategic Plan, which includes our newly revised Statement of Values and School Philosophy.

Changes to the Reporting Timeline
In recognition of the difficult to conduct quality assessment online, the Department has advised that schools may use the remainder of the term to finish Semester 1 assessment, and reports will be finalised and sent to parents on Friday, 23 July (Term 3 Week 2).

We have currently scheduled the next round of Parent-Teacher Interview for 28-29 July (Term 3 Week 3) so that you can have a timely conversation with your child(ren)'s teachers regarding their progress.

New Feature of SBS Chinese
A special thank you to Layla's family for joining the school in a feature article on the difficulties in maintaining Chinese literacy for Chinese families in Australia (and how our program is an excellent solution for both background and non-background speakers!)

It's a very well written piece and I am grateful that we were invited to be part of this exciting dialogue.

You may find the article via the links below - English and Chinese.

We would also appreciate if you could forward this article to your own connections who may be interested in our flagship bilingual program.

Dragon Boat Festival Celebrations

Wild Action Report

Hi everyone, my name is Marlowe!

Today I would like to talk about the Wild Action Incursion.

Earlier in the term, the Zoo came to our school!

We saw a lot of wild animals for example there was a blue tongue lizard, a baby Joey, a giant turtle, a crocodile, a snake and two frogs. Most of the animals can be found around the Yarra Bend river.

My favorite part was when we got to touch all different kinds of animals.

I think this incursion is a great opportunity for us because it basically makes us feel like going on an excursion, instead it is coming to us.

Thank you to Travis Laoshi who organised this event for the Junior School students.

In the future, I hope there will be more incursions like this!

Marlowe
