Junior School Council Report

Hi everybody!

Sammy and Lara here, your school captains. This week everybody is celebrating coming back to school and seeing their friends and teachers again. Next Friday we will have our first face to face assembly in about 3 months. We are very exciting about it!

We interviewed some students who are onsite today and asked them what they feel about coming back to school and here are what they said:

“Seeing our friends and going outside is excellent!” --- Jade, Florence, Eddie

“Super great! I can get some fresh air.” --- Layla

“It is nice coming out of lockdown so you could see friends and family” --- Phoebe

“Exciting! School makes learning easier!” --- Lloyd

At the end, here is a reminder to all APS students: remember to wear your mask and always sanitise your hands to stay safe! Don’t forget to bring your hat to school next week!

Have a good weekend and can’t wait to see everybody next Monday.

Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Happy World Teachers' Day and happy end of remote learning!

Once again, I cannot express my gratitude enough for all the extra efforts, roles, responsibilities that our teachers and you as parents/carers have put in during Lockdown 6.

We have made it and let's make sure we make the most out of Term 4!

With Melbourne Cup Day just around the corner, I hope that you will enjoy a restful weekend and an extra day to clear your mind!

Return of School Equipment and Books
From next Monday, we would like students who have borrowed a school laptop to return it with its bag and charger.

This is also a good opportunity to dig out books and readers you may have borrowed from the school library.

We are currently working on a cataloguing project to ensure that we have better control over school assets. You can really help us by bringing back what belongs to the school so that they can be part of our stocktake.

Resumption of Extra-Curricular Activities
From next Monday, we will resume all our extra-curricular activities.

For after school clinics, we will be continuing with Term 3 sign-ups:

  • Monday - Basketball
  • Wednesday - Soccer
  • Thursday - Soccer
If you have forgotten which nights you are on for soccer, please check with the Front Office in the morning.

Junior Rockers will resume onsite from Thursday.

Keyboard lessons will continue being online. Angela will be in touch with families to organise the format of lessons for the rest of this term.

Parent Payments / Voluntary Contributions 2022
As per DET requirement, the Parent Payments Policy (aka. Voluntary Contributions) is published at least 7 weeks before the end of the school year. The policy has now been endorsed by the School Council.

As the DET has done major reform to this policy this year, may I encourage you to read through the cover letter thoroughly to understand the new categorisation of voluntary contributions and school's key initiatives for 2022.

We will formally begin accepting payments for 2022 from Week 6 Monday (8 Nov). Once again, thank you for your support of the school!

Public Speaking Program

APS Parents - Kathleen Foley, Jess Moir, and David Morgan – have been helping to run a 4-week online public speaking program since the start of Term 4. This parents-initiated program was set up with the aim to assist senior girls (in particular) to gain more confidence in public speaking, as well as Junior School Council members to think about the art of communication in their leadership.

Students who participate in the program are expected to produce a speech and deliver it in front of an audience in mid-Term 4. They have been supported by Kathleen, Jess and David in a very friendly and approachable way. We look forward very much to sharing the growth of the students from the Public Speaking Program with you in due course.

See you on Monday!

Note: We are running a special program on Monday, 1 November. It will be a day focused on aspects of the Wellbeing curriuclum, as well as team-building. We would like to use the opportunity to allow students to enjoy the cross-year level friendships, re-establish routines and revise how we socialise with each other based on the school values.
