Junior School Council Report

Hi everyone, we are Phoebe and Edie and we are going to talk about the Richmond High School visit. As part of our high school transition process, a few of Richmond high’s staff members, Mrs Hayse, Mrs Bruce and Mrs Uhe, along with students, Molly and Amelia ,visited the year 6’s to help us gain more understanding of what high school is like.

A few good questions students asked were:

  • What is the School uniform code
  • What the School houses were and their mascots
  • How to pay for the food in the Cafeteria
  • Student ID card information
  • Devices and phone policy
  • Rules on sharing food with other students
  • All the Clubs and how to start one

They were very helpful and they answered all our questions. We had a great time and we are all looking forward to going to high school.

Auditions for Abbotsford Primary School Movie

Hi everyone, I am Alex and I am the School Captain. This week we have started auditioning for our school movie. We had people audition for the roles of: Naomi, Dr Craven, Hail, Aiden, Taro, and Tigerlily. Thank you to all the students who auditioned. We had a lot of people audition for the movie so thanks for your patience and all the judges thought everyone did a great job. Unfortunately, there are only six roles. The judges watched each audition and used a scoring system to rate each student.

People who got the roles include: Annick in Grade 4 for Naomi, Declan in Grade 2 for Dr.Craven, Amani in Grade 5 for Hail, Edwin in Grade 4 for Aiden, Danger in Grade 5 for Taro and Kinnery in Grade 4 for Tigerlily. Oliver in Grade 6 will play as the gorilla. Thank you to Fangni lao shi for supervising the auditions.

We also have some upcoming events. Science week is 22nd-26th of August and there will be a lot of fun activities to look forward to. Don't forget we have Athletics carnival on the 17th of August as well!

I hope everyone will have a good weekend! See you next Monday.

Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

The last two weeks have been characterised by a relentless focus on leraning.

100 Days of Prep
Last Thursday, our Foundation students celebrated their 100 days of prep, and used 100 as a motive for various creative expressions.

Congratulations on the incredible growth each and every Foundation student has shown over the last 100 days of school! We are very proud of them indeed!

English Info Session
The English information Session was held on Tuesday and we thank parents/carers for attending and asking such engaged questions.

During the session, Travis explained in a very systematic way:
  • The structure of the Victorian Curriculum - English
  • The Why and How of Assessment
  • How different areas of English is taught at school
  • How parents/carers can support our work at home
We also launched a new webpage as part of the English Info Session, which contains various useful links, resources and infographics related to topics that were covered during the English Info Session. The powerpooint presentation used at the English Info Session is also available on the new "Resources for Parents" page under Learning > English.

"Saving Archie & Lil" Performance
Today, as part of the Wellbeing Curriculum, all students at APS enjoyed a performance by Brainstorm Productions called "Saving Archie & Lil."

The performance unpacked the following issues in a dramatic way and students were able to empathise with the various modern challenges in their social world as a result of technology:
  1. Positive Connections
  2. Cyber Safety
  3. Digital Citizenship
  4. Bullying & Cyber Bullying

We strongly encourage parents/carers to initiate some reflective conversations with your children about the performance they watched today. While different age groups would have picked up something different, it is important that students have an opportunity to share their learning in order to consolidate it.

To top it off, at the end of the extended Wellbeing session today, Year 1 students enjoyed some live music from Tiger laoshi on the guitar while they enjoyed their snacks. This five-star hotel style service was complementary and well-received by our students.

Zhōumò yúkuài and stay safe in the thunderstorm!
