Junior School Council Report

Hello everyone, Lisa and Florence here. We are the Vice and School Captain. Today we will talk about what has been happening in the past fortnight.

Firstly, on Tuesday the 13th of September, The grade 5/6s had a poetry slam competition about Social Justice. Whoever won the poetry in each class got a $100 gift card, 2nd got $50 and 3rd got $20, The winners in Grade 5 were Nhi, Darani, and Alanah for 1st, Kenji got 3rd and there was no 2nd place. For Grade 6 Florence got 1st, Frida got 2nd and Lisa got 3rd.

Secondly, the Moon Lantern Festival was on Thursday night this week and it was a blast. There were lots of foods like spring rolls, moon cakes and sausage sizzles. There's also a bake sale with lots of goodies. We did a lantern parade at the end. All of the students and families had lots of fun!

Be sure to look out for the APS Moon Lantern Festival video on our Youtube Channel.

Lastly, On Friday all of the students got to dress up in their house colour and voted for the best lantern in their classes. The winner of each class got 30 house points. At Recess, the Vice and School Captains announced the winning house for the term. Congratulations to Blue House!

As a celebration, the winning house got a free period to play games that were set by the House Captains outside such as table tennis, tag, dodge ball and lots more.

Also Fangni’s is visiting her family in China and won’t be back for the rest of the year. We will all see her next year except the Grade 6s who will miss her very much :(

It's the last day of the term so we hope everyone has a great holiday. See you in term 4!

Policy Consultation

In July this year, new Child Safe Standards were introduced in Victoria. For more information, please refer to Commission for Children and Young People's website

In this round of revision of the Child Safe Standards, there were 3 main changes in particular:
  1. the involvement of families and students in child safety efforts
  2. schools' focus for Aboriginal children and young people
  3. better management of the risk of child abuse in online environments.

Schools have been asked to revise various policies based on the Department's guidance, and provide families an opportunity to be consulted on a handful of policies.

Lizzie and Stanley have been busy working on the required updates throughout the Term 3, and we encourage families to take a look at the new policies (in draft form) below and offer any feedback.

We are looking for feedback that views the document as a whole, particularly from a more ‘localised’ perspective and a ‘user’ perspective. For example, are there missing information and examples that are specific to the context of our school, or something that is particularly worth highlighting based on your observations of how the school operates?

If you would like to contribute to this consultation process, please email us any feedback to abbotsford.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

The Fathering Project - Brogan's Distillery

The APS Fathering Project community met up for our second event on 2nd September. It was a resounding success with attendees enjoying a tour of Brogan's Way distillery that was both informative and very amusing.

Following the tour, fathers spent time discussing both ourselves and fathering challenges we have faced - it was amazing how many shared experiences there are and some of the imaginative approaches people have taken.
