Principal's Report

Welcome to week three! The term is moving quickly already and much has been happening around Abbotsford Primary. I wish to thank all parents and carers for their attendance at our parent teacher meetings over the last two weeks. Communication and collaboration between teachers and families is so important in ensuring the very best earning opportunities for our children. I also want to thank school staff for all their work over the last two weeks. Preparations for the Moon Lantern festival are in full swing as well. Lixia and Crystal are continuing their crucial work in preparing and supporting our students to perform on the night, and the fundraising subcommittee of school council is hard at work organising things behind the scenes. Our trivia night is fast approaching, and I have included a special message from the Fundraising Subcommittee of School Council below.

Curriculum Day

Our curriculum day on the 18th of August is fast approaching. We will be working further on our instructional model and ensuring consistency of practice. We will be planning peer observation for teachers and reviewing school data following mid year reports and NAPLAN. There will be whole-day care available on the day so If it is required, please contact Camp Australia to book your child in.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents and caregivers of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Survey links will be sent next week.

Annual Reporting Meeting

The School Council organises a presentation each year to report on our achievements from the previous year (as part of our reporting requirements.) This presentation will be held online on Tuesday, 8th August 2023 between 6:00-6:30pm. The presentation will cover key elements of the written Annual report (already available on our website) and a summary of key School Council activities in 2022. If you are interested in attending this presentation, you can access the presentation via https://eduvic.webex.com/meet/mcneill.keith.l or you can attend in person here at the school. The presentation will also be recorded for those who were unable to attend.

Donations for School Fundraising Activities

Throughout the school year, the Fundraising Subcommittee runs various activities, such as BBQs, bake sales, second-hand uniform sales, raffles, movie events, as well as the upcoming-sure-to-be-fun trivia night. Money raised from these activities contribute to the school's fundraising objectives.

We welcome in-kind donations of goods and services from the APS community which we can offer as prizes for raffles, the trivia night, and other events.

If you are interested in making a contribution for the trivia night on Friday 11 August or a future fundraising activity, please contact abbotsford.ps@education.vic.gov.au or speak with Marianna at the school office.

Thank you for your consideration!
